The Queensland Art Gallery which was earlier called Queensland Cultural Centre is situated near Brisbane River in South Bank. The philosophy behind the gallery is connecting people and arts. The Queensland Art gallery is symbol of cultural and artistic development and has various qualities and many attractions that encourage people for visiting many collections. They opened the gallery during the year 1985. Earlier to History, the gallery housed a sequence of temporary premises and did not have any permanent home till they launched the present building in South Bank of Brisbane in the year 1982.
The Queensland Art Gallery was regarded as the most famous building during its time and it used some of the best materials and techniques which were available with economic limits of project. It was the 1st building that was built in South Side of adjacent river for new Victoria Bridge and was established as benchmark scale with many future buildings.
The Queensland Art Gallery has an area of 4700 square meter with broken walls and barriers which interchange between public and art world. The walls are placed particularly for creating the flow and to change the journey of viewer’s course. The major orientation of the elements of the design of the Gallery separates the serene environment of famous exhibition galleries from environments of education, library and administration areas. The varying floor levels and ceiling heights, textured surfaces and color enhance many display areas but it will not help in identifying the main entrance since it is very hard to find. The design fails as importance element for many public buildings since it is addressed adequately. Queensland gallery of modern art was opened recently. The buildings make use of maintenance free and light-colored materials that is reflected by cement and get adapted to sub tropical climate of Brisbane.
The Gallery of Modern Art has a total region of 25,000 square meters and is the biggest exhibition gallery of an area of 11,000 square meters. The gallery holds finest art works from Asia, Australia and Pacific region. The building was created by Architectus, a famous Sydney architecture. The gallery will also be considered as international leader for presenting museum-based innovative living programs to children. Such programs are organized through Children’s Art Centre. It develops youth audiences for visual art and other programs.
