The Museum of Contemporary Art located in Los Angeles, California is a contemporary art museum and has three branches in California. The main branch is located in Downtown Los Angeles in Grand Avenue near the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The original space of MOCA which was actually intended as temporary space for exhibit and main facility was built and is now called as Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo, famous district in Los Angeles.
Since the inception of museum, the programs of MOCA has been defined by a multi-disciplinary approach towards contemporary art. With many popular events and exhibitions, MOCA is one of the finest museums which display modern art. During the 1st Sunday of each month, family workshops are organized which includes discussion-based and interactive spotlight tour that highlights the selected works of present exhibition. The families will work collaboratively for creating artwork in response to work which they observed.
Designed by various artists, process-oriented and innovative workshops extend the experience of gallery and include frequent special activities like musical movement and performance and various other disciplinary approaches in the view. These programs are offered in Spanish and English. The Big family day is very spring culminating event for most of the schools and community partnership programs. It features entertainment music, student documents, student art making exhibition and art making which attracts more than five hundred participants that includes members of MOCA, the families and communities mostly. The initial Sundays are for Families which are held at Grand Avenue just not stated in the website calendar. The contemporary Art gallery is gathering for high school students who are interested to learn more about the art with the peers. The group meets every month for many explorations, discussions, art workshops, and many events planning. The advisory council for teens helps to identify the issues and topics which are addressed for monthly sessions.
Every year, the MOCA Apprenticeship program is used for creating a good artistic community for a wide group of high school students. Apprentices will be considered staff and will be paid hourly wage. The construction of the MOCA Grand Avenue building cost around 23 million USD which was a portion of city-brokered deal with developers of 1 billion USD. The Bunker Hill Associates which received 11 acres that was owned publicly. The project broke grounds during the year 1983 and after that the museum was completed. There are two buildings namely first skyscraper in California Plaza and 2nd Skyscraper was completed in 1986 and 1992.
